Pioneers Badminton Club

Founded in February 1981, the Pioneers Badminton Club was the first badminton club in Barbados. It was formed by a group of friends at the Barbados Community College, and was appropriately christened 'Pioneers'. The founding members were Ms. Gloria Chung, Mr. Chetwin Stewart, Mrs. Ray Thompson, Mrs. Kathy Gordon, and Mr. Mervyn Gordon. Some founders had played the game before in their countries of birth and began to impart their knowledge to new recruits through practical on-court tutoring and coaching videos. The club was instrumental in the formation of the Barbados Badminton Association in 1983.
